For years, Nigeria, known as Africa’s biggest oil producer, has been grappling with the issue of fuel pricing.
Various periods in the country’s history have witnessed fuel scarcity, subsidy removal, protests, and deregulation as different administrations have endeavored to find a balance among consumers, marketers, and the government.
The journey of fuel price adjustments in Nigeria dates back to 1973 when the petrol pump price was hiked by General Yakubu Gowon’s military regime from 6 kobo to 8.45 kobo per litre.
