Governor Lawal of Zamfara State Advocates for Advanced Technology to Combat Insecurity

The importance of employing advanced technology to address the security challenges in Zamfara State and the broader northern Nigeria region has been underscored by Governor Dauda Lawal.

Lawal, along with nine other governors from the North-West and North-Central, is presently in the United States for a symposium on ‘Peace and Security’ organized by the Africa Center at the United States Institute of Peace.

This assertion comes in the wake of a recent incident where over three individuals lost their lives due to an attack by bandits at a market in Tsafe town, the administrative hub of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State.

According to an eyewitness, the bandits carried out the attack at the market around 11 a.m. on Sunday, opening fire on those present.

During a meeting with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C., Lawal highlighted the pivotal role of technology, including Artificial Intelligence, in bolstering security measures, as stated by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

“We are here faced with shared challenges, with the primary one being insecurity that necessitates urgent action.

“The prevailing insecurity has adversely affected agriculture, rendering it unfeasible. Our plea for assistance is in transitioning from subsistence farming to modernized agriculture leveraging technology to combat this insurgency.

“We anticipate finding viable solutions in these engagements. I inherited a poorly functioning state with inadequate development indicators.

“I have already declared a state of emergency in Education and Health. Swift measures are crucial to tackling these pressing concerns, or else our prospects will remain dim.

“Substantial support is needed to surmount these challenges and ensure a brighter future for our populace,” Lawal articulated.

He commended the governors for their dedication towards finding enduring solutions to the persistent insecurity plaguing certain Northern Nigerian regions.
