The APC Dominates Gombe Local Government Election
Victory was clinched by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent elections held across the 11 local government areas of Gombe State on Saturday.
The results were officially declared by the Chairman of the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, Saidu Shehu, who disclosed that the APC emerged triumphant in all 11 local government areas, including Kaltungo and Shongom, where it faced no opposition.
During the election result announcement, out of the 19 registered political parties, only five took part in the electoral process. These parties were the APC, Peoples Democratic Party, Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party, and Young Progressives Party.
Shehu mentioned, “Out of 19 registered political parties, five parties had candidates. The parties that participated are All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Accord, Zenith Labour Party, and Young Progressives Party.
“APC cleared the 11 local government areas including Kaltungo and Shongom where the party won unopposed.
“Other parties didn’t have candidates for the councillorship seats, candidates of the APC were returned elected.”
Among the victors were Sani Haruna from Gombe LGA; Dr Ahmed Doho from Kwami LGA; Ibrahim Jatau from Balanga LGA; Egla Idris from Billiri LGA; Mohammed Danladi from Akko LGA, and Shuaibu Adamu from Funakaye LGAs.
Also emerging victorious were Iliya Suleiman from Kaltungo LGA, Abubakar Hassan from Yalmatu Deba LGA; Binta Bello from Shongom; Adamu Mohammed from Dukku, and Babangida Adamu from Nafada.
Following his own participation in voting at the Yahaya Umar polling unit 010, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya called on the unsuccessful candidates to support the winners and unite for a common cause.
Yahaya emphasized the importance of peace and proper behavior, expressing, “The people should remain calm and be of good conduct and above all go in solidarity so that whoever emerges will be supported to deliver on the needs of the people.”
“I am completely convinced that we are on the right track towards success, there is no cause for concern; you can observe the happiness among the people and the smooth conduct of the election across the state. The people are content, and the process is commendable.”
