New CCB Chairman appointed by Tinubu
Dr. Abdullahi Bello has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau by President Bola Tinubu. His appointment is pending confirmation by the Senate.
Prof Isah Mohammed, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2018, will be succeeded by Bello.
In a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new Chairman of Code of Conduct Bureau,’ the Presidency announced Bello’s appointment. The statement was signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Bello is described by Ngelale as a professional with over 25 years of experience in consulting, banking, law enforcement, financial services, and academia.
The establishment of the CCB dates back to 1979 when the Constitution outlined Codes of Conduct for public officers. However, it was not until 1989, under the Babangida regime, that the bureau received its legal mandate.
The Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, Chapter 58 LFN 1990, mandates the bureau to receive asset declarations from public officers, examine the declarations, retain custody of them, and make them available for public inspection under conditions set by the National Assembly.
Tinubu expressed his expectation that upon confirmation by the Senate, the new Chairman will lead the Bureau with integrity in upholding high public morality standards in government operations.
The statement also highlighted that the new Chairman must ensure that the conduct of public officers aligns with the highest standards of morality and accountability.
