The Defeat of PDP in Abia Guber Election Linked to Leaders’ Authoritarian Actions – Party Official Aguoru
Chief Uche Aguoru, the Director of New Media of the now-defunct Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Campaign Council in Abia State, has pointed out that the Party’s loss in the 2023 elections was a result of high-handedness and lack of transparency among a few influential members.
He took aim at a former minority leader of the senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, accusing him of laying the foundation for the party’s internal breakdown.
In a statement released on Thursday, Aguoru maintained that Abaribe spearheaded the rebellion and emboldened others to turn against the party.
He highlighted that the party leadership failed to detect the conspiracy and proceeded to deny popular candidates tickets during the primary elections.
Aguoru emphasized, “The PDP lost valuable members who could have ensured success at the grassroots level.”
“The party engaged in self-sabotage as the state chairman lacked control over the internal party dynamics, resulting in an inevitable defeat at the polling units,” he added.
Aguoru disclosed that the party has activated its internal conflict resolution mechanism, which is beginning to show positive outcomes.
He stated, “Deliberations are ongoing at top levels, with issues being tackled without reservations.
“In a short while, the party will emerge with a robust and dynamic leadership.
“The party is undergoing introspection and devising new strategies. Undoubtedly, it remains the sole platform capable of offering a formidable opposition to the ruling Labour party.
“Senator Akobundu is urged to permit members to democratically elect their leadership; he should endorse internal party democracy. His authoritarian tendencies led to the departure of figures like Hon Onuigbo and several others from the PDP.”
