Violent Attack at Anambra LG Secretariat: Police Station Set Ablaze
On Thursday, a group of approximately 30 hoodlums carried out an attack at the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters in Neni, Anambra State. Reports indicate that the perpetrators were heavily armed and also set fire to the Neni Police Station.
The incident took place between the hours of 3:00 am and 4:00 am on the same day. A source from the area mentioned that during the attack, the hoodlums were heard shouting demands for the removal of the DPO, citing his allegedly extended stay of over 15 years in Anaocha.
According to the source, the attackers accused the Anaocha Police Station of operating similarly to a SARS unit, engaging in various illicit activities. The State Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the occurrence.
SP Ikenga stated that despite the use of improvised explosive devices by the hoodlums during the assault on the police station, they did not manage to steal any weapons or abduct any officers. He commended the police operatives for effectively repelling the attackers using superior firepower.
He mentioned, “Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this attack. We are committed to ensuring that those accountable for this violence will face the full force of the law.”
