‘Yahaya Bello urged not to shame former governors’ – Ortom’s advice
In a recent development, Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, has given counsel to the incumbent Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, urging him to cease evading authorities and present himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It is noteworthy that the anti-corruption agency, EFCC, issued a warrant for Bello’s arrest last week on allegations related to money laundering. Bello is facing accusations of misappropriating more than N80 billion during his tenure as the Governor of Kogi State.
Ortom conveyed his message during a thanksgiving event organized by his ex-appointees to commemorate his 63rd birthday at the Regional Headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Makurdi last Sunday.
He emphasized, “I take this opportunity to advise my dear friend and younger brother, former Governor Yahaya Bello, to not bring disgrace upon former governors.”
“If the EFCC summons you to account for your actions, do not attempt to hide or resist arrest. Merely comply and clarify your position. The EFCC officials are individuals carrying out their duties within the confines of the law.”
“I have attempted to reach out to him via phone and through his associates, but to no avail. If he can hear my message, I implore him to present himself before the EFCC,” Ortom added.
