Enugu State Assembly Witnesses Six Members Switch from LP to PDP

Transitioning from the Labour Party, a total of six Enugu State House of Assembly lawmakers have officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The announcement was made during the Assembly’s recent plenary session.

Their decision to defect was attributed to the persistent internal divisions and crises plaguing the Labour Party on both national and state levels. The defectors lamented the party’s current state of perpetual discord and legal disputes amongst factions, severely hindering its ability to effectively represent the people.

Once seen as a promising platform for progressive ideologies, the Labour Party’s reputation has now become synonymous with internal conflicts, diminishing its capacity to meet the electorate’s expectations.

They specifically mentioned the existence of factions such as Abure, Apapa, the national treasurer, and the parent body, NLC, within the party, further justifying their move to the PDP.

Expressing optimism in the PDP’s commitment to serving their constituents’ interests, the defectors conveyed their gratitude to the Labour Party leadership for their past support.

The lawmakers who switched allegiance include the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Ejike Eze from Igboeze North I, House Leader Hon. Johnson Ugwu representing Enugu North, and Hon. Princess Ugwu from Enugu South Rural, among others.

Additional members who joined the defection are Hon. Pius Ezeugwu from Nsukka East, Hon. Amuka Williams from Igbo-Etiti West, and Hon. Osita Eze from Oji River.

The motion to accept their defection was initiated by Rt. Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu and seconded by Rt. Hon. Jane Eneh.
