Adedeji: FIRS Ensures No Tax Hike Plans
Emphasizing the commitment of the Federal Inland Revenue Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, is the assurance of the agency to abstain from implementing new taxes within the nation.
This affirmation was made during a visit to the Revenue House in Abuja by the management team of Guinness Nigeria Plc, led by Adebayo Alli, as disclosed on Wednesday by Adedeji.
A statement endorsed by the FIRS chairman’s Media Special Adviser, Dare Adekanmbi, highlighted the agency’s restructuring for more effective operations.
Adedeji stated, “Following the President’s directive for a single-digit tax regime in the country, our target is to streamline the number of taxes to nine after the recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.”
Expressing the agency’s approach, Adedeji explained, “Our focus is on expanding the revenue base, ensuring substantial growth even without altering tax percentages.”
He continued, “Rest assured, there are no plans for new taxes or tax increments. Our goal is to enlarge the revenue pool. FIRS has revamped its operational structure to facilitate the proper execution of tax assessment, collection, and accountability. We are moving away from the multiple taxes system to tailor our services solely for the taxpayers.”
It should be noted that FIRS concluded 2023 with a total tax revenue collection of N12.374 trillion for the Nigerian federation.
