Chijioke Edeoga Condemns Killings in Enugu Community, Emphasizes Farmer Security
Recent attacks on Ugwujoro in Nimbo Community of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State by suspected herdsmen have been strongly condemned by Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the previous gubernatorial election in the state.
Edeoga expressed his intolerance towards the violence and bloodshed carried out by the assailants believed to be killer herdsmen and called for prompt and resolute actions from both the state and federal governments.
The condemnation came after an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Nimbo late Sunday evening resulted in loss of lives and critical injuries to several others.
Highlighting the significance of safety and security for every citizen, especially farmers, Edeoga emphasized that these aspects are crucial and should not be compromised.
In a statement posted on his social media handle on Monday, he urged the authorities to give utmost priority to the security of communities and ensure swift justice for the perpetrators of such atrocities.
He stated: “The recent appalling attack on Ugwujoro in Nimbo Community of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State by suspected killer herdsmen is strongly condemned. The tragic loss of lives and suffering inflicted upon innocent residents is unacceptable and deeply saddening to all of us.”
“The ongoing violence and bloodshed attributed to the assailants demand immediate and resolute action from both the state and federal governments. It is crucial that the security of our communities is a top priority, and the perpetrators of these heinous acts are swiftly brought to justice.”
“I urge the residents of Enugu to be more vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Reporting any suspicious activities promptly will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities.”
“I also call upon the President to enhance security measures for farmlands and farmers not only in the North but also in the East, specifically in Enugu State, to align with the food security agenda. Safeguarding agricultural lands and ensuring the safety of farmers who are essential for our nation’s food production and economic stability is paramount.”
“While appreciating the President’s efforts in addressing security challenges in Enugu State, more interventions are needed, particularly in areas like Eha-Amufu in Isi Uzo LG and Uzo Uwani LGA, where communities are still facing threats and occupation by killer herdsmen. Increased efforts are required to restore peace and security in these affected regions.”
“It is imperative to reiterate that the safety and security of every citizen, especially our farmers, are non-negotiable. Let us unite against violence and collaborate towards fostering peace and harmony in our beloved Enugu State.”
