The remains of 140 Ukrainian soldiers returned by Russia

Ukraine has officially received the bodies of 140 soldiers who lost their lives while courageously defending regions including Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson from Russian aggression.

The announcement was made by the authority responsible for prisoner of war affairs through a Telegram message issued on Friday.

Among the fallen soldiers, five of them were from the Sumy region in northern Ukraine.

Although Russia does not have control over any Ukrainian territories in the Sumy area, reports indicate that at the start of March, units purportedly comprising of Russian volunteers supporting Ukraine initiated movements from the Sumy region towards Russian soil.

Upon the confirmation of the soldiers’ identities, their remains will be handed over to their respective families, as stated by the coordinating entity, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Appreciation was expressed towards the International Committee of the Red Cross for facilitating the repatriation process.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for more than two years, with Ukraine facing a relentless Russian invasion.

Despite the ongoing hostilities, both sides engage in periodic exchanges of deceased soldiers and prisoners of war.

Details regarding the number of fallen soldiers that Russia has received in return remains undisclosed at this time.
