‘Our Presence Stands Firm’ – Reaction of TikTok’s CEO to Potential US Ban
In response to the legislation proposing a ban on the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok in the United States if not sold within nine months, CEO Shou Zi Chew has provided commentary.
On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden signed a foreign aid package outlining the possibility of banning TikTok in the country within the stipulated timeframe.
CEO Chew addressed this development through a video message on the platform, stating firmly that the app is here to stay.
He emphasized his belief that the new law is politically motivated.
Chew expressed, “Rest assured, our commitment stands firm. The implications of this law are clear, but our determination is stronger.”
“This is not just a restriction on TikTok; it encroaches on your right to be heard. Despite political narratives, our resolve remains unwavering,” he added.
He further remarked, “It is intriguing how the essence of free speech on TikTok resonates with the foundational American principles of liberty. This platform magnifies the voices of everyday Americans.”
The CEO of TikTok promised, “Our pursuit of justice will persist through legal channels. Our position is fortified by facts and the Constitution, and we anticipate a favorable outcome.”
In 2020, TikTok successfully battled against former President Donald Trump’s efforts to mandate its sale through an executive order that would impose restrictions on any US-based transactions with ByteDance if the app was not divested within 45 days.
