The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled a campaign council consisting of over 200 members in preparation for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21.

In a statement released to the press in Benin City, the State Organizing Secretary of the party, Tony Anenih Jnr, announced the formation of the campaign structure.

According to Anenih, the campaign council includes an advisory council led by Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, and 200 distinguished members of the party.

He further revealed that the women’s wing of the campaign council will be headed by the State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, while the youth wing will be led by Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor.

Anenih stated that the selected members of the Campaign Council are prominent individuals within the PDP chosen strategically to ensure the success of the party’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

Highlighting the unique features of the campaign structure, he explained, “The advisory council comprises 7 distinguished members, with the governor as the chairman.”

“The Management Committee includes the Director General and 13 Deputy Director Generals responsible for finance, contact and mobilization, media/publicity, field operations, security, among other areas.”

He also emphasized the importance of the youth and women wings within the campaign, noting that they will operate independently while maintaining a collaborative relationship with other directorates.

The selection process, as detailed by the state party’s organizing secretary, was closely supervised by party leaders under the guidance of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Expressing confidence in the capabilities of the selected campaign team, Anenih conveyed his optimism that they would effectively support the party’s candidate in the upcoming election.
