Call for Resignation of APC National Chairman and Zoning of Party Leadership

At the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, a group of stakeholders from the North Central region has staged a protest demanding the resignation of the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The protesters expressed their call for Ganduje’s resignation in light of his recent suspension by a faction of his ward executives and the bribery allegations made against him by the Kano State government.

Chanting solidarity songs and holding banners with messages such as “Ganduje must resign” and “Return the APC chairmanship to North Central,” the demonstrators also urged President Bola Tinubu and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume to reconsider giving the party leadership back to the North Central region.

Although the Forum of APC State Chairmen had recently reaffirmed its support for Ganduje, the Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders expressed their discontent with his continued tenure, citing a violation of the party’s zoning principle.

Leader of the protest, Mohammed Mahmud Saba, highlighted that unlike the 37 APC state chairmen, the North Central region has passed a vote of no confidence in the national chairman and demanded his immediate resignation.

Saba emphasized the sense of betrayal felt by the North Central stakeholders when the APC national chairman position was taken away from them after the departure of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, despite their significant support for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

He stated, “We, the North Central APC Concerned Stakeholders, have decided to collectively advocate for our rights and reclaim the mandate bestowed upon us by the Party’s National Convention in 2022.”
