US President Biden declares Easter Sunday Transgender Day of Visibility

The recent action taken by President Joe Biden of the United States involves the approval of a bill that aims to restrict the usage of the social media platform, TikTok.

Following its endorsement by the U.S. Congress earlier, this bill demands that the parent company of TikTok, ByteDance in China, must sell off the application within a nine-month period or face a prohibition on its operations within the U.S.

President Biden affixed his signature to this legislation within the $95 billion foreign aid package that has also garnered support from Congress, and this funding allocation will benefit Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan.

Despite these developments, TikTok has stated its intention to challenge this new law through legal proceedings.

In a comment, TikTok’s spokesperson, Alex Haurek, criticized the law as being “unconstitutional” and declared the platform’s determination to contest it in a court of law.

Notably, TikTok successfully navigated a previous legal confrontation with former President Donald Trump, who in 2020 attempted to instigate its sale via an executive order that would have restricted any transactions between ByteDance and U.S.-based entities if the app was not divested within 45 days.
