The Commission Aims to Enhance Electricity Supply in Edo State
An electricity injection sub-station has been completed by the Niger Delta Development Commission in Amufi-Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State.
In a press release on Monday, Pius Ughakpoteni, the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, revealed this information.
The sub-station is set to be inaugurated and handed over to Benin Electric in the near future. Victor Antai, NDDC’s Executive Director of Projects, expressed contentment with the progress of the 1×15mva 33/11kv electricity project during a recent inspection.
Highlighting the importance of the substation in addressing the energy needs of nearby communities, Antai stressed the Commission’s dedication to sustainable development and transformation in the region, moving away from mere transactions.
Antai mentioned the directive from the NDDC CEO to intensify project monitoring and supervision, ensuring compliance with set standards by contractors. This directive includes dedicating two days weekly to fieldwork for tracking project progress.
He assured that the project would be commissioned and handed over to BEDC by the end of the current month, after inspecting the substation’s equipment and facilities and confirming their quality.
Commending the community leaders and youth for co-operation in safeguarding the project site and equipment, Antai assured that all equipment met international standards.
During the inspection, Kingsley Atseyinku, a representative of BEDC, noted the substation’s potential in enhancing the electricity company’s operations in Edo State after testing the equipment and confirming its suitability.
Providing project details, Mrs. Jane Fregene, Head of Project Monitoring and Supervision in NDDC’s Edo State office, confirmed the certification of the 1×15 MVA 33/11kv Injection Substation Equipment and Control Room by the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency.
She stated that electricity supply to the Amufi community would receive a boost and enhance business productivity for companies and artisans in the vicinity.
Chief Egharevba Iyi-Ewu, a traditional ruler in Amufi, expressed gratitude to the NDDC for executing the electricity project and urged the Commission to hasten the inauguration process.
