Victims allegedly abducted by gunmen along Eke-Ebe Road in Udi Local Government Area have been rescued by operatives of the Ezinze Division of the Enugu State Police Command.

In a statement signed by Enugu Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe, it was revealed that the rescue took place around 6:15 pm on March 31, 2024, following a fierce gun duel with the criminals who abandoned the victims and fled.

According to the statement, the Enugu State Police Command’s operatives, along with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, swiftly responded to the information received about the attack on the victims who were traveling in two Mercedes Benz 4Matic jeeps and were abducted into the forest.

The operation was carried out to hunt down the abductors, with ongoing efforts to achieve this objective.

Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, however, condemned the allegations made in a viral video which implied that another police team failed to rescue the victims. He clarified that this team was awaiting necessary intelligence guidance to proceed into the forest and avoid any potential collateral damage.

Emphasizing the commitment of the command to eliminate unrepentant criminals, the commissioner dismissed the viral video’s claims as an act of mischief designed to tarnish the image of the police force.
