An illegal bunkering site in the Ukwa East Local Government, Abia State, has been dismantled by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

According to a statement issued by the NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, on Wednesday, 9,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil were seized from oil thieves in the state.

The operations were carried out by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad as part of a renewed crackdown on economic sabotage activities.

The NSCDC team demolished the illegal bunkering site, which included a large local boat used for transporting locally-refined petroleum products, and a loading point.

The squad, based on reliable intelligence, discovered oil bunkering operations ongoing at Inhandu/Ikwariator Riverside in Ukwa East Council Area, where Automotive Gas Oil was being loaded and transported in cellophane bags.

“Upon investigation, a bunkering site engaged in local refining of petroleum products was uncovered,” shared Afolabi.

Those involved in the illicit activities fled upon seeing the NSCDC operatives.
