Between January and March 2024, the Kano Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service proudly announced a revenue generation of N30.2bn.

During an interview in Kano, the Area Comptroller, Mr. Dauda Chana, unveiled this remarkable achievement.

Encompassing Kano and Jigawa states, the Kano area command witnessed a substantial surge in revenue in comparison to the same period in 2023, when N9.5 billion was recorded.

Implementing enhanced security measures, the command is actively combatting smuggling activities within the region.

Mr. Chana emphasized the positioning of officers at key locations to crackdown on illegal smuggling operations.

With officers stationed at border posts like Maigatari in Gumel Local Government Area, Jigawa, and the Jeke outpost in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa, the command is vigilant against smuggling.

Expressing readiness to tackle smuggling through proactive strategies, Mr. Chana emphasized the importance of arresting and prosecuting offenders.

He called upon traditional leaders and stakeholders, especially those in border regions, to support and educate residents on the detrimental impact of smuggling on the economy.

Engaging border community youths for intelligence gathering, the command aims to curb all forms of smuggling activities effectively.

Emphasizing strict monitoring of identified smuggling routes, the area commander assured a tough stance against smugglers with arrests and prosecutions.

While seeking stakeholder support in discouraging smuggling, the area commander advocates for the promotion of locally produced goods over illicit trade.
