Prior to the upcoming shadow election of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State for the gubernatorial race, the party has announced its decision to implement a direct primary system to choose the candidate who will represent the party in the November 16 elections.

This information was disclosed in a letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the party, notifying the electoral body about its primaries scheduled for April 20.

The letter to INEC was signed jointly by the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Basiru.

The party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Duru, also confirmed the adoption of this approach, informing reporters about the party’s choice.

Former House of Representatives member, Nze Duru, stated, “For the Ondo State gubernatorial primary election, we are opting for the direct primary mode of election.

“This decision has been officially communicated in a letter signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary to INEC, indicating the party’s selection of the direct primary mode for the Ondo State gubernatorial election.”

As a result of this decision, contenders have commenced vigorous campaigns among party members to seek their support in securing the party’s nomination.
