In a devastating incident on Wednesday, four individuals tragically lost their lives, while five others sustained severe injuries in a fatal collision at Ayere village along the Ilorin-Bode-Saadu highway in Kwara State.

The Kwara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps revealed that the fatal crash involving two DAF trucks occurred at approximately 1:02 pm along the Ilorin-Bode Saadu route, leading to a fiery inferno that engulfed both vehicles.

In a statement by Sector Public Education Officer Busari Basambo in Ilorin, it was reported, “Upon receiving the distress call about the accident around 1:09 pm, FRSC rescue teams were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they rescued five injured male adults and transported them to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.”

Preliminary investigations unveiled that one of the trucks, carrying fertiliser and eight passengers, recklessly attempted to overtake another vehicle with limited visibility of the road ahead. In an attempt to avoid a collision with an oncoming truck, the driver lost control, veered off the road, and collided with another truck transporting tomatoes.

The officer further stated, “A total of 10 individuals were involved in the crash, with five sustaining injuries, and sadly, four losing their lives. The fire has been extinguished, and the debris cleared to ensure the uninterrupted flow of traffic.”
