Following a recent rainstorm in the Iloko community of the Oriade Local Government Area in Osun State, one casualty has been confirmed, and approximately 600 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.

In a similar incident back in March, the residents and traders of Iloko-Ijesa suffered significant financial losses due to a severe rainfall that caused widespread destruction and damage to properties.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provided an update on the damage assessment conducted on Wednesday. In a statement shared on its X platform, NEMA’s Southwest Zonal Office, along with Osun State SEMA and community leaders, evaluated the impact of the rainstorm disaster in Iloko, Oriade LGA of Osun State.

During the assessment, headed by AZC Olanrewaju Kazeem, the team received a warm welcome from Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe.

“The community leaders expressed gratitude for the prompt response and briefed the team on the current situation,” NEMA’s statement highlighted.

The assessment uncovered significant destruction, including property damage, loss of livelihoods, and one reported fatality. More than a thousand individuals were affected, with 600 individuals being displaced as a result of the rainstorm.
