NEMA reports one fatality and 600 displacements in Osun due to rainstorm

Following a recent rainstorm that hit the Iloko community in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, one individual has tragically lost their life, and around 600 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.

In a previous incident in March, residents and traders in Iloko-Ijesa suffered extensive property damage amounting to millions of naira due to heavy rainfall that caused significant destruction in the town.

A detailed report on the assessment of the storm’s impact was shared on Wednesday by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The statement, posted on its official platform, read, “NEMA Southwest Zonal Office, in conjunction with Osun State SEMA and local community leaders, conducted an evaluation of the aftermath of the rainstorm disaster in Iloko, Oriade LGA of Osun State.

The team, under the leadership of AZC Olanrewaju Kazeem, was warmly welcomed by Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe.

The Oba and community leaders expressed gratitude for the prompt response and provided the team with an overview of the situation.

The assessment identified extensive destruction, including property damage, loss of sources of income, and one casualty. The incident impacted over a thousand individuals, with 600 individuals facing displacement as a result.”
