An individual from Nigeria, Emanuel Osase, who is suspected to have ties with the Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, has been ordered to be held in detention for a period of 60 days by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Inyang Ekwo issued this directive on Wednesday in response to an ex-parte motion filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) under the reference FHC/ABJ/CS/409/2024.

During the court proceedings, the legal representative for the applicant, A. A Ugee, informed the court that the application was made in accordance with the provisions of Section 66(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.

Ugee requested the court to grant an order allowing the applicant to detain the accused for 60 days while the investigation is ongoing.

In his ruling, Justice Ekwo approved the request made by the DSS.

He stated, “Having carefully reviewed the details presented in the affidavit, I hereby approve the relief sought.”

The case has been adjourned by Justice Ekwo until June 3, 2024.
