Call from Wamakko for Traders to Lower Prices of Goods

Sokoto State’s All Progressives Congress leader, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, has urged traders in the state and across the country to adjust their prices to the current value of the naira as it strengthens against the Dollar.

Speaking at his Gawon Nama residence after breaking the Ramadan fast with commissioners and academia, Senator Wamakko emphasized the need for traders to align prices with the improved naira value.

Previously, traders complained about the rising dollar rate, but now the naira has strengthened to around N1,200 per dollar from over N1,700, as noted in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Bashar Abubakar.

Senator Wamakko expressed disappointment towards traders who have failed to lower prices despite government efforts to stabilize the dollar exchange rate, urging the traders’ association in Sokoto State to intervene and reduce prices for the welfare of citizens.

Joining Senator Wamakko for the Ramadan fast were Commissioners of Tourism Aminu Magaji Bodai, Religious Affairs Dr. Jabir Sani Maihiula, Home Affairs Sharifu Abubakar Kamarawa, and others. The gathering also included management staff from North-West University Sokoto, with Umar Abubakar Garun Babba leading, alongside politicians and APC supporters.
