Analysis by Marcotti suggests Pochettino may be deploying Chelsea star in wrong role

According to football pundit Gab Marcotti, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino may have been utilizing Cole Palmer in the wrong position this season.

Despite Palmer’s impressive performances as Chelsea’s standout player, Marcotti believes that Pochettino’s tactics are hindering his potential.

In a commentary on ESPN, Marcotti argues that the English player would excel best as a No. 10 rather than being deployed out wide on the right flank.

Commenting on Palmer’s performance metrics, Marcotti noted, “There are many penalty goals contributing to his stats, and I believe he hasn’t yet been given the opportunity to shine in his ideal position at Chelsea. Although it’s not his fault, when played on the right wing, he tends to drift centrally, which is not ideal. Perhaps he could thrive more as a No. 10, but then this would require the right-back, like Malo Gusto, to adapt to a different role,”.

Palmer made the switch to Chelsea from Manchester City during the last summer transfer window.
