Abubakar Muhammadu, a 38-year-old farmer, stood before the Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan on Wednesday. The charge against him was the alleged possession of a locally crafted pistol containing a live cartridge.

The police accused Muhammadu of unlawfully having a live cartridge in his possession.

During the proceedings, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Femi Omilana, stated that the defendant was said to have committed the offense on February 16 at around 10:00 a.m in the Akinyele area of Ibadan.

Omilana claimed that Muhammadu failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for why he had a cartridge in his possession.

The prosecution pointed out that this act violated the stipulations of Section 428 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Upon being charged, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. G. Oladele, granted Muhammadu bail amounting to N100,000 along with two sureties who must match the bail sum.

The case was adjourned for further hearing scheduled for May 23.
