With the close of the sales of expression of interest and nomination forms on Wednesday, the ruling All Progressives Congress has garnered a total of N720m from 16 governorship aspirants vying for the party’s ticket in Ondo State.

The process, which commenced on March 27, concluded on April 3, 2024.

The party set the expression of interest form at N10m, while the nomination form was priced at N40m.

However, female and disabled aspirants were only required to obtain the expression of interest form, as the nomination form was provided free of charge.

By the end of the form sales period, the party had amassed N720m from 14 male and 2 female aspirants ahead of the shadow poll on April 20.

Notable figures who acquired both forms include the current Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Senator Jimoh Ibrahim representing Ondo South district; APC stalwart Olusola Oke; former President of the Nigerian Medical Association Prof. Francis Faduyile; Dr. Funmi Waheed-Adekojo, and the APC National Vice Chairman for the South West, Isaac Kekemeke.

Others who purchased the forms are Akinfolarin Samuel, Olusoji Ehinlanwo, Okunjimi Odimayo, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, Gen. Ohunyeye Olamide, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Oladiran Iyanjan, and Ifeoluwa Oyedele.

Meanwhile, the party leadership has mandated all aspirants to complete and return their forms by Friday, April 5.

In another development, the National Working Committee of the APC has opted for a direct primary to select the Ondo governorship candidate.

This decision was communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission through a letter jointly signed by the National Chairman of APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.

This choice was also confirmed by the Deputy National Organising Secretary, Chidi Duru, on Wednesday night.

“For the Ondo State governorship primary election, we are adopting the direct primary mode.

“A letter has been sent to INEC, signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary, informing the adoption of the direct mode for the Ondo State governorship election,” stated Duru.
