The Labour Party is currently experiencing turmoil and uncertainty, with the Board of Trustees announcing that it has assumed control of the party’s operations.

This development follows a contentious convention held in Nnewi, Anambra, where Julius Abure was controversially re-elected as national chairman.

In a late statement issued by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Comrade S. O. Z. Ejiofor, it was declared that the national convention was not recognized.

“In compliance with the Labour Party Constitution, the Board of Trustees has intervened to oversee the party’s affairs following the expiration of the tenure of the previous National Working Committee led by Mr. Julius Abure,” the statement explained.

This intervention aims to prevent any leadership vacuum within the party.

Additionally, the Board of Trustees, in collaboration with key stakeholders, will soon outline the procedures for conducting a comprehensive and inclusive National Convention for the Labour Party,” the statement further elaborated.

The Board of Trustees reassured all stakeholders of its dedication to revitalizing and reshaping the Labour Party as a means of advancing the social and political interests of the nation and its workforce.
