Tragedy Strikes: Three Drown, 11 Rescued in Lagos Boat Accident Breaking News: Fatal Boat Mishap in Lagos



Tragedy struck on Monday night as three individuals lost their lives in a tragic boat accident on the Ibeshe-Ikorodu channel. Fortunately, 11 other passengers were rescued from the capsized vessel.

Witnesses recounted that the distressing incident unfolded around 7:30 pm when the boat experienced a sudden mechanical failure.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, officially confirmed the occurrence.

Upon receiving distress signals about a passenger boat originating from Addax Jetty at 7 pm, emergency responders swiftly intervened.

Following the accident involving the “Oluwaseyifunmi” passenger ferry and its 14 occupants, a coordinated effort by rescue teams managed to salvage 11 individuals. They were promptly transported to the Ibeshe Ferry Terminal for medical attention.

Regrettably, three persons did not survive the ordeal. The Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SEHMU, was assigned the responsibility of relocating the deceased to the state mortuary.

Reports indicate that investigations into the root cause of the tragedy have commenced, with LASWA and other relevant authorities leading the inquiry.
