Protest in Lagos by NLC members against economic challenges

Published

on

Expressing discontent with the prevailing economic difficulties in the nation, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has taken the streets of Lagos by storm.

The protest also highlights the dissatisfaction of union members with the federal government’s failure to uphold agreements made on October 2, 2023, subsequent to the elimination of fuel subsidies.

As a result of the government’s inability to implement measures to alleviate widespread hardship, the decision to protest was taken after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.

Following a failed attempt to reach common ground during the meeting between the federal government and NLC last night, the union made its intentions to begin the protest clear.

In large numbers, NLC members congregated at the Ikeja underbridge, singing, dancing, and demanding that the government pay heed to their appeals.

The continuation of the protest is anticipated for tomorrow.
