Approval of N5.2 billion by Gombe State Government for Gratuity Payment

In a recent development, the Gombe State Executive Council has given the green light for the disbursement of approximately N5.2 billion to settle the gratuities of retirees in the state and the local government.

Addressing the media after the conclusion of the council’s 36th meeting chaired by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, Commissioner for Information, Mijinyawa Tilde, disclosed the decision.

Nine memos were presented and subsequently approved and ratified by the council, as outlined by Tilde.

Highlighting the government’s commitment, Tilde stated that this move marks the fifth occasion the present administration has taken steps to clear outstanding gratuities inherited from previous administrations.

Furthermore, Commissioner for Finance, Muhammad Magaji, detailed that a sum of N2.291 billion has been allocated for the settlement of the gratuities of the state’s civil service workers, specifically for the retirees in 2018.

Addressing the approval for payments to retired local government workers from all 11 Local Government Councils, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Abdulkadir Waziri, affirmed that over N3 billion has been set aside for this purpose from the local government contributory fund.

Additionally, Magaji revealed that the finance ministry also approved N332 million for compensating property owners at Bauchi and Dukku motor parks in Gombe metropolis.

Earlier, Governor Yahaya had disclosed the receipt of N2 billion out of the N5 billion subsidy removal palliative provided by the Federal Government, which was distributed as palliatives to the people of Gombe State.
