The introduction of new certificate verification guidelines sparked a protest among nurses working in public and private hospitals in Lagos State. The nurses took to the streets to express their discontent and demanded the Federal Government to reopen the verification portal without any conditions. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria issued a memo on February 7, 2024, outlining the revised guidelines for certificate verification. The aggrieved nurses opposed the new guidelines and called for a reversal within 48 hours. The protest, which took place on the streets of Lagos, saw the nurses chanting and carrying placards to voice their concerns. Some of the placards carried slogans such as “We no gree for NMCN free Nigeria Nurses” and “Nurses no be slaves No to a letter of good standing from anybody.”
