President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proclaimed the government’s relentless efforts to transform Nigeria into a net exporter of food.

According to a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, this commitment was expressed during a visit to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja by a delegation from the Global Tijaniyya Movement, led by Khalifa Muhammad Mahe Niass.

He pledged to enhance agricultural productivity through a range of initiatives, including the expansion of farmlands, provision of low-interest loans to farmers, and substantial investments in irrigation infrastructure.

“We are dedicated to equipping hospitals with modern equipment, providing healthcare professionals with training, and ensuring social welfare for every citizen, including comprehensive health insurance coverage,” Tinubu stated.

He added, “Nigeria will become a net exporter of food. We are bringing thousands of tractors. Food production will be greatly expanded through aggressive mechanization. We must be productive as a people. That is the Sunnah and the principles I grew up understanding.”

President Tinubu’s assurance comes at a time of soaring inflation and increasing living costs in Nigeria. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in the December consumer price index, headline inflation stood at 28.92 percent, while food inflation was 33.93 percent.
