The death of the Chief Executive Officer of Access Holding Plc, Herbert Wigwe, has been officially confirmed by the company. This was disclosed in a statement by Sunday Ekwochi, the company secretary, on Sunday. The statement revealed that Wigwe, along with his wife and son, died in a helicopter accident in the United States of America on Friday, February 9, 2024.

The bank described Wigwe as a driving force with a larger-than-life personality. It expressed deep sadness over his passing and extended sincere sympathies to his family and loved ones. Abubakar Jimoh, Chairman of Access Holdings, also commented on Wigwe’s passing, recognizing his immense contribution to the company and expressing confidence in the Access Group’s ability to build on Wigwe’s legacy.

It was reported that Wigwe, his wife, son, and other individuals died in a helicopter crash in California, United States. Herbert Wigwe, who was from Rivers state and born on August 15, 1966, passed away at the age of 58.

The Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc is expected to announce the appointment of an Acting Group Chief Executive Officer in line with the company’s policy. The company remains confident in the ability of the Access Group to uphold Wigwe’s legacy of growth and operational excellence.
