The Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State has elected 17 National Delegates, including Chief Odion Olaye, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, and Benin chief, Osaro Idah. These delegates were elected at the ward congresses that took place last Saturday in the state.

Chief Odion Olaye and Osaro Idah were elected by ward delegates in Oredo and Egor local government areas respectively. Additionally, former senators Francis Alimikhena and Yisa Braimah were among those elected.

The ward and national delegates congresses were conducted in preparation for the party’s governorship primary which is scheduled for February 22, 2024. These congresses were held in 17 out of the 18 local government areas in the state.

However, the ward congress election in Etsako Central Local Government Area was canceled due to the alleged abduction of nine electoral officers. A statement by Tony Anenih (Jnr), the State Organizing Secretary, on February 9, notified party members of the conduct of the National Delegates Election in all LGAs of the state, except for Etsako Central Local Government Area.

These congresses were overseen by officials from the National Headquarters of the PDP in Abuja.
