The ex-chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Segun Adewale, has pointed to a lack of unity within the party as a key reason for its consistent losses in elections held in the state. Adewale, also known as Aeroland, made these remarks during a recent interaction with journalists in Lagos.
In addition to the disunity, Adewale attributed the party’s electoral setbacks to the mismanagement of election funds by party leaders and their engagement in anti-party activities. He warned that unless these issues are addressed, the PDP would continue to struggle to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.
Adewale specifically highlighted the gross mismanagement of election funds, alleging that a significant portion of the funds meant for the 2023 elections did not reach the state or the party’s grassroots activists. He accused certain leaders within the party of pocketing these funds instead.
He further alleged that some prominent party members were involved in anti-party activities, even claiming to possess video evidence showing PDP leaders collaborating with the APC during the 2023 general elections.
Adewale’s comments paint a picture of deep-rooted issues within the Lagos PDP, raising concerns about the party’s ability to effectively compete in future elections.
