In response to claims of bandit infiltration and increased informants in Gombe State, Police Commissioner Hayatu Usman has refuted these allegations. The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Abubakar, released a statement to journalists on Friday, quoting the police boss and labeling the claims by a security agency as unsubstantiated.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ Commandant, Muhammad Bello, had previously warned residents about accommodating strangers or their agents during the decoration of 302 officers on Tuesday, stating that criminals were relocating from North-West to North-East.

Usman has dismissed these warnings, asserting that there is no threat in the state. The statement from the Police Commissioner emphasized their commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to ensure the protection of lives and property and the maintenance of law and order in Gombe State.

The statement further emphasized, “The attention of Gombe State Police Command has been drawn to a trending video in circulation purported to have emanated from a sister security agency that ‘bandits have infiltrated Gombe State and that bandits informants are on the increase.’ The command wishes to state emphatically that there is no such threat in Gombe State, and the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, is committed to ensuring the protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order in the state.”

Usman urged residents to disregard the misinformation and continue their daily activities without fear, while also soliciting credible information to help maintain peaceful co-existence in the state.

The statement ended with a reassurance to the people and residents of their safety and a call for the public to report any suspicious individuals or movements to the nearest Police Stations.
