The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have given a 14-day notice to the Federal Government for a nationwide strike. This action is in response to the government’s failure to implement a 16-point agreement reached with organized labor on October 2, 2023.
The leaders of NLC and TUC are concerned about the government’s indifferent attitude towards the widespread suffering and hardship despite organized labor’s efforts to promote harmony in the workplace. In their statement, NLC and TUC expressed regret for having to resort to such measures, stating that the neglect of citizens’ welfare and the massive hardship have left them with no choice.
In response to this, NLC and TUC have issued a stern ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the honoring of their part of the understanding within 14 days starting from February 9, 2024.
