Three Robbery Suspects Apprehended by Police in Lagos

Lagos State Police PRO SP Benjamin Hundeyin

Hundeyin disclosed that the suspects were tracked and apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad.

He further revealed that the gang leader, Sheriff Owolabi, had been on the police’s wanted list following a robbery and murder incident on August 19 at Ojodu Berger, Lagos, where a victim named Temitope was killed by the gang.

According to Hundeyin, Owolabi’s confession led to the arrest of another gang member, Ibrahim Gambo, in the Ibafo area of Ogun.

It was uncovered that the suspects took the stolen car to Ibadan and sold it to a suspected receiver from Cotonou, Benin Republic.

“The suspect confessed to being involved in a series of car thefts in Lagos. He also admitted to selling the cars to a buyer known as Alhaji from Cotonou,” Hundeyin stated.

Additionally, Sheriff Olakunle was apprehended in Mushin for aiding the suspects in selling the stolen phones in that area.

Hundeyin mentioned that the suspects also led the police to the POS operator who assisted them in withdrawing the money transferred from the victim’s account.

Owolabi and his gang allegedly cornered their victim on November 14 around 10 pm as she was leaving her office in Oregun, Ikeja, Hundeyin continued.

The suspects reportedly forced the woman into her Toyota car with Reg. No. BWR 49 DE and drove away.

They allegedly coerced the woman into transferring about N3.2 million from her account to another account provided by them, and also robbed her of her phones.

After taking her money and belongings, the suspects dropped her off at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and fled in the vehicle.

Hundeyin confirmed that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the suspected receiver of the stolen items.

As reported by PUNCH Online, operatives from the Lagos State Command apprehended four individuals for robbing road users in traffic near the Ojota area of the state, according to a statement issued by Hundeyin on Tuesday.

Hundeyin mentioned that the suspects were nabbed following a tip-off from one of the victims. This prompted the men of the Rapid Response Squad to take immediate action, resulting in the arrest of three suspects on Sunday, with the fourth apprehended the following day.
