FG to close section of Third Mainland Bridge January 9

It is scheduled to be closed on January 9, 2024, as announced by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Olukorede Keisha, in a statement on Thursday.

According to Keisha, “The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, wishes to inform the motoring public that the emergency repairs of Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will continue with the closure of Iyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele bound for the effective repairs of the entire section of the bridge.”

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as the Ojota – Ikorodu road- Funsho Williams Avenue – Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS- Ojota- Ikorodu Road- Jibowu – Yaba- Oyingbo-Iddo- Carter Bridge- CMS, and the Gbagada- Anthony- Ikorodu Road- Funsho Williams – Eko bridge- Apogbon – CMS.

They are also urged to cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to manage traffic and ensure smooth movements to minimize discomfort during the repair period.

Keisha expressed gratitude for the public’s past cooperation and understanding and called for continued cooperation during this period.

Earlier in October 2023, the Federal Controller of Works had disclosed plans for a comprehensive overhaul of the Third Mainland Bridge’s asphalt layers, emphasizing the bridge’s importance as a lifeline for commuters in Lagos.

She explained, “So we were saying let us do a complete overhaul of the asphalt overlay. Some of them have been long overdue because we haven’t done that in the last 30 years. It is just the failures that have shown up that we have been addressing.”
