Addressing Poverty and Backwardness: VP Shettima Urges Unity

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to come together in the fight against poverty, destitution, and underdevelopment in the country.

Shettima made these remarks while commissioning the 5-km Masaka-Luvu road in Karu Local Government of Nasarawa State, during which he emphasized the importance of national unity in fostering peace, progress, and development.

Highlighting the essential link between peace and development, Shettima stressed, “There can never be any meaningful development without peace.”

He also referenced his recent visit to Jos, Plateau State, where he offered condolences to the people of Bokkos and Barikin Ladi Local Governments following a tragic incident on Christmas Eve. Quoting Martin Luther King, Jr., Shettima reiterated the need for unity, stating, “We either learn to live together as brothers or we perish together as fools. It is inconsiderable for any community to be an island unto itself.”

As the special guest of honor at the event, Shettima commended Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa for his efforts in maintaining peace and urged all Nigerians to reject actions that could lead to anarchy.
