In connection with manhole cover theft and vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure, 20 suspects were arrested. Additionally, five suspects were allegedly involved in the vandalism of electrical cables, 14 for other public property vandalism, and two for television theft.

The remaining suspects comprised of 28 individuals detained for railway vandalism and destruction of other critical national assets. In October, 11 people were apprehended for illegal mining, and in December, 11 illegal miners and two vandals were paraded.

Odumosu pointed out that three Private Guard Companies were sanctioned for various offenses, such as operating without a license and refusal to renew their license, under his leadership.

The command is geared to heighten its efforts in the coming year to crackdown on vandals, illegal Private Guard Company operators, and miscreants within the FCT.

According to PUNCH Online, on December 17, Minister of Solid Mineral, Dele Alake, attributed the illegal mining activities and acts of terrorism to ‘Powerful Nigerians’ in different parts of the country during a visit to defend the 2024 budget estimates before the House Committee on Solid Minerals at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

As part of the measures taken to combat illegal mining across the country, the Federal Government has implemented inter-ministerial actions to fight the menace and protect the nation’s natural resources.
