Tinubu’s Plea for Enhanced Collaboration between FG and States

President Bola Tinubu emphasized the mutual responsibility of Federal and State Governments in ensuring the peace and stability of the country. He stressed the need for closer collaboration between the governments to foster rapid infrastructural development nationwide.

Tinubu made this call during a meeting with state governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum at his residence in Lagos.

He urged for the discarding of federal, state, or rural road classifications and strong emphasis on regarding development as a joint responsibility. Tinubu also called for the prioritization of children and swift reinstatement of the school feeding program, at the local government, state, and federal government levels.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed this in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu to governors: we have shared responsibility to ensure Nigeria’s peace and stability.’

The meeting took place shortly after the Forum’s secretariat dismissed allegations of crisis within its ranks, as claimed by its former director of Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Barkindo.

Barkindo had accused the Forum of being more transactional than developmental and highlighted the lack of auditing in its accounts for a decade. However, the legal director of the NGF, Chijioke Chuku, refuted Barkindo’s corruption allegations in a statement signed on Monday.

During the meeting with the governors, Tinubu reiterated his condemnation of the recent killings in Plateau State and instructed security agencies to curb the violence and intensify the pursuit of those responsible for the tragic events in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas.

Tinubu also emphasized the sanctity of human life and urged a change of mindset among those holding contrary beliefs, cautioning them about the inevitable consequences of their actions. He stressed the need for peace and stability in Nigeria, as he acknowledged Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State for his efforts to peacefully resolve political challenges in the state.

Addressing the governors about the 2024 Budget proposals before the National Assembly, Tinubu mentioned a review meeting he had earlier in the day with the Minister of Finance, Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

The NGF Chairman, Abdulrazaq, expressed solidarity with the government and people of Plateau State, offering prayers for the departed souls and peace in the region. He also reaffirmed state governments’ support for the bold decisions and reforms initiated by President Tinubu’s administration, acknowledging the challenging times and their confidence in overcoming them.
