Fire at Gwarzo Market Destroys 22 Shops, Traders Suffer Heavy Losses




Rabiu Khalil, the Zonal Information Officer of Gwarzo Local Government, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the fire began at midnight on Sunday and it took the State Fire Service personnel until Monday morning to extinguish it.

Khalil stated that numerous shops were completely consumed by the fire, resulting in the destruction of property worth millions of Naira.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or loss of life during the incident.

Dayyabu Bala, one of the victims, estimated his loss to be over N5 million and appealed for government and public assistance to alleviate their plight.

Abdulahi Babangandu, a member representing Gwarzo Federal Constituency, visited the affected traders and contributed N500,000 to support the victims.

Confirming the incident, Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, stated that the inferno destroyed 22 shops.

Of these shops, Abdullahi clarified that two were still under construction at the market.
