Edo police lose cop, vow to end killings

The Edo State Police Command has suffered a loss and is determined to put an end to the series of killings perpetrated by cult groups in the state. During an anti-cultism operation in the Ugbowo axis on December 24, 2023, a policeman lost his life. The command, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, emphasized its efforts to restore peace and order in reaction to the recent killings by suspected rival cult groups in Benin. These clashes have resulted in the deaths of Hilary Odia, a broadcaster with Independent Television and Radio, and a vigilante commander. Commissioner of Police, Mohammed  Dankwara, has reassured residents of the state of their safety during Christmas celebrations. Furthermore, the statement issued by the Edo State Police Command underscored the commitment to ending the violence and ensuring the state’s peace. The police also announced a significant number of arrests of secret cult members from various groups in different locations within the state, who will soon face prosecution.
