The exit of Procter & Gamble (P&G) from Nigeria has sparked concerns about the challenges faced by manufacturers in the country. The Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Segun Ajayi-Kadir, expressed his worries regarding the difficult operating environment for businesses in Nigeria.

Ajayi-Kadir emphasized that the government needs to address issues such as poor infrastructure, inconsistent policies, and limited access to finance in order to prevent further closures. He pointed out that P&G’s exit is just one of many manufacturers leaving the country due to these challenges.

While acknowledging the departure of large companies like P&G as regretful, Ajayi-Kadir also highlighted the opportunity to focus on promoting local manufacturers. He stressed the importance of empowering existing manufacturers to ensure a sustainable industrial sector in Nigeria.

The MAN DG urged the government to take clear and decisive action to prevent further exits and secure the long-term success of the manufacturing sector. It was reported that nearly 5,000 jobs are at risk as a result of P&G’s planned exit from Nigeria.
