Protesters shut down Chevron’s facility in Delta

Protesters have effectively shut down Chevron’s Escravos Gas To Liquid, (EGTL) project in Delta State.
Angry protesters from Ugborodo community, Warri South Local Government Area, took action on Tuesday, accusing the company of failure to implement the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and other demands.
One of their demands was for Chevron to fulfill the agreed Ikpere-HCDT implementation with NUPRC. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that “the superintendents now hire their relatives instead of unemployed locals.”
While some of the protesters focused on Chevron’s compliance with host community regulations, others emphasized that the company “should not exclusively hire workers from the 2019/2020 section for the ongoing maintenance work.”
