Plenary Held by Anti-Fubara Lawmakers with Tight Security in Rivers

Amid tight security measures, a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly convened a plenary at the Assembly complex on Tuesday.

Reports indicate that more than 20 members, who are loyal to the embattled Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, participated in the session.

The lawmakers discussed the suspension of the strike by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, and issued an order for the police to investigate the fire incident in the chamber on October 29.

It remains uncertain whether the lawmakers reopened the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which had previously sparked political tension in the State.

Currently, police patrol vans are stationed at the entrance of the Assembly complex.

However, restrictions on vehicular and human movements, imposed during the sitting by the Assembly members, have now been lifted at Moscow Road.

Additionally, senior police officers were observed locking the entrance to the House of Assembly complex after deploying more personnel to the entrance gate.

These events transpired 48 hours after the factional Speaker of the House, Edison Ehie, alleged an assassination attempt on his life on Sunday night.
