Messi’s 2022 World Cup shirts to be sold for £8million

The shirts worn by Messi during the 2022 World Cup are anticipated to be auctioned for over £8million at Sotheby’s New York later this month, according to a report by the Daily Mail. The Argentina captain played a pivotal role in his country’s triumph in Qatar, scoring five goals and providing two assists during the tournament. His exceptional performance led to him winning the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time. If the shirts do indeed sell for more than £8million, it would surpass the existing world record set by Steve Hodge, who sold Diego Maradona’s infamous ‘Hand of God’ jersey from the 1986 World Cup quarter-final for approximately £7.1m, making it the highest price ever paid for a piece of football memorabilia.
